EMKA supply standard ex-stock and custom industrial gasket profiles for sealing of enclosures, cabinets, vehicle doors and other applications where it is important to exclude dust and or water.
Extruded gasket sealing sections
Extruded gaskets for enclosures and other purposes are available in self-adhesive, self-grip (clip-on), channel fixing and window type (with expansion insert). The EMKA range includes EPDM, NBR, CR, PVC and silicone, as well as many with EMC compatible coating. These suit electrical and electronic cabinets, as well as street furniture.
Other standard products in the range feature edge protection or wiping capabilities while the tank band support sections fill a very specific role for trucks and similar vehicles where fuel/water/oil tanks are secured by banding straps.
In addition to electrical/electronic enclosures and cabinets, many standard sections are available specifically for applications such as motor vehicles, railway carriages, and off-road trucks and machines such as agricultural equipment and fire trucks. Coaches and motor homes also feature with moulded sections to suit doors, windows and ventilation panels, as well as external storage compartments. In addition we offer a bespoke custom design service – where there is a requirement for a really different profile then the EMKA team are delighted to design, develop and produce to suit specific needs.
The EMKA gasket program now includes in excess of 730 sections with or without spring clip mounting spine for environmental sealing, equipment protection or personnel protection. Profiles in neoprene, epdm, PVC, black nitrate and natural rubber cover traditional expanded closed cell (self-adhesive) foam, through wiping blade and bubble or P type sections, to more complex multi-functional and custom designs.
This changing role is indicated by increasing requirements for compression locks and up to IP65 sealing. The EMKA sealing profiles incorporate a large number of stock sections and an extensive custom production capability. Many profiles are available as simple mouldings, but it is also possible to have sections moulded onto spring carriers even in small custom quantities.
Profiles include wiping designs, fillers and flocked weather strips and supported sections with internal or flange structural support. Specialist considerations regarding shore hardness, tensile strength, recoil elasticity, abrasion resistance and climatic/chemical resistance can also be advised upon and allowed for in custom production. Standard gaskets for specialist enclosures
The 1011 series of standard profiles offers many different types to suit all sorts of cabinet and housing applications for OEMs and specialist manufacturers. Sealing levels up to IP65 are possible and there are EMC variants with protective shield coatings that further enable manufacturers to achieve levels of EMC compliance in sensitive areas.
The 1011 series gasket construction often comprises mixed materials to ensure best performance, e.g. by using the durability of PVC with the flexibility of EPDM or the oil resistance of perbunan. Increasingly many sections are UL listed, e.g. to UL50 which defines them as suitable for outdoor applications while others are to UL94HB which refers to their self-extinguishing characteristics.
Simple manual fitment onto a door edge is quickly and easily achieved by using a spring steel core within the carrier section. This is complimented with solid, hollow, bubble and finger sealing sections, thus permitting either compression or wiping seals as required by the application.
The differences in requirement for compression are accommodated by sections with compression compliance of 2.5mm up to 11mm and even up to 30mm, dependent upon installation parameters. Back to top
Pre-assembled gasket rings and frames
Proper sealing of ends and corners is essential to maintaining full sealing performance of a gasket profile, thus eliminating problems of “cutting short” which leaves a gap in the installed gasket strip, also addressing the problem of sealing into a square corner – otherwise often achieved by running the gasket round and creasing the material or by cutting and not adequately sealing.
Pre-assembled gasket is ideal for rapid application to door frames or apertures such as skylights, vents, access panels in electrical/electronic cabinets or enclosures – also for vehicle OEMs for car, truck and coach doors, as well as for caravans, railway coaches and specialist vehicles like ambulances and fire trucks.
Standard shapes include butt joins and right angle joins enabling rings and frames as well as combinations to be produced in steel inserted profiles. Assembly is very simple by pushing or knocking onto a flange. Back to top
Fire and EMC resistant gasket to UL ratings
1016 self-adhesive gasket is available in fire resistant versions to UL94 VO and 94HB ratings, also in EMC formats to address electrical and magnetic interference. The expanded closed-cell neoprene comes in stock strips from 3mm to 80mm thick and in standard widths from 10mm up to 80mm, with complete custom capability, e.g. for sheets and punched shapes.
EMC versions of the 1016 program have a conductive external skin in order to attenuate the transmission of electro-magnetic interference across the sealed junction. Typical applications for 1016 gasket range from gap sealing to noise reduction, e.g. from internal equipment; also vibration damping and impact cushioning on cabinets, furniture and machinery.
1016 series gaskets are produced in neoprene and EPDM, they are self-adhesive, i.e. to clean non-porous surfaces, such as painted/unpainted metal, plastics or to sealed natural materials – varnished timber etc.
Neoprene utilised in the 1016 program tolerates working temperatures of +70°C to -30°C – with fire resistant versions capable within +85°C to -40°C, they offer substantial resistance to many typical commercial/industrial chemicals and gases. Back to top
Gaskets and extruded profiles for specialist vehicle sealing
Gasket sealing of doors, panels and windows for specialist vehicles is addressed in the latest Railroad Industry and Mobile Homes and Trailers catalogues. Moulded sealing strips are described to match the functions commonly found on special or custom build road and rail vehicles, i.e. glazing profiles, self-gripping, fire protection, EMC shielding, edge protection and tank support bands. These are common requirements for emergency service vehicles, caravans/motor homes, trucks, coaches, rail carriages and control cabinets to mention just a few applications.
Glazing profiles in EPDM feature a conventional locking strip to ensure secure location. Self-gripping P type and blade/wiping sections are in EPDM or NBR to appropriate UL standards. Of particular note is the fire protecting range in EPDM and silicon covering many different national fire protection standards including DIN, NF, CEN, UNI, ASTM and SMP and of especial relevance to railway installations.
EMC gasketing profiles feature an anti-static silicon P section and a fully sheathed conductive type over an EPDM core, coupled with an EMC conductive tape system for masking the matching contact area.
PVC and EPDM edge protection in a variety of forms serve to protect users from sharp edges and metalwork from collateral damage, where doors and panels are closed onto painted services. Similarly, EPDM tank band support sections provide cushioning protection between tanks for diesel, water, hydraulic oil etc. and their mounting straps to ensure integrity of the installation.
